Burberry is a UK based outfitter, manufacturing clothing and other apparel often in a distinctive check pattern that has become one of its most common copied trademarks. The company has branded stores and franchises around the world and also sells through concessions in third party stores. It also runs a catalogue business and has a fragrance line. Both HM Queen Elizabeth and HRH The Prince of Wales have granted the company Royal Warrants.
HUGH'S INVOLVEMENT & QUOTES
Hugh Dancy was a model for Burberry's Fall 2004, Spring/Summer and Fall 2005 Campaigns. Whether he still plans to model with them or if they've still got his number is still unconfirmed, but we're hoping there's more in store for the future
For a short time, Hugh was the Face of Burberry Brit for Men, a cologne available through the fashion line. He appeared on the side of a building in New York City in the classic Mario Testino shot of him posing in front of an old Austin Martin (see above photo), as well as at the Burberry Headquarters in Kengsington, London. He also appeared in pictures with models such as Kate Moss and Stella Tennant and still goes to some of Burberry's special events and parties.
"There are so many stereotypes of what it means to be British. With Hugh, we wanted to take ownership of the kind of Englishman who's a bit peacock, a bit rock and roll." - Christopher Bailey, Burberry's creative director, on why Burberry chose Hugh for the campaign.
"I actually prefer to see photos of myself rather than moving film. Watching yourself on screen is like hearing yourself on an answering machine. Burberry wanted an actor to be their poster boy, and it's been a happy turn of events for me because I have learned something different. I was aware that Burberry existed but didn't know what Christopher Bailey was doing there. Up until recently, I dressed like one big fashion mistake. I've got much nicer clothes now." - Hugh on the whole schpeal.
